Delicious Hotel, Franschhoek
With its quirky décor and vibrant colours, Delicious Hotel in Franschhoek is an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area, or spend a relaxing weekend break from Cape Town.
The five en suite bedrooms are each individually themed and decorated with random but bright and cheerful bits and bobs. My favourite is the old typewriter in the Itsy Bitsy Room, which is a bit bigger than the aptly named Teeny Weeny rooms. There are also two Bigger than a Bikini rooms with views of the swimming pool.

Although it’s run and managed by the same team from its neighbouring five-star boutique hotel, Le Quartier Francais, Delicious is a three-star, easier-on-the-wallet option. You can choose to have a standard stay without all the frills of dinners and pamper treatments or ‘supe-up’ your stay by adding on all these optional extras.
Rooms have TVs (with selected DStv channels), air-conditioning, tea/coffee stations and there’s a communal lounge with fireplace, board games and a patio leading to the loungers and sparkling pool. If you opt for the breakfast or dinner options, you can enjoy a meal at the Common Room or Tasting Room at Le Quartier Francais and all spa treatments can be had here as well.
Lounge area, Delicious Hotel
Activities (apart from wine-tasting) include visits to the motor museum, hiking, township tours and cycling (there are bike rentals). When you’re not out and about exploring the greater area you can take a short walk to Voortrekker Road and indulge in mouth-watering meals, beautiful gifts and trinkets and stroll to the Huguenot Monument at the end of the road.
What I liked
The rooms are simple but clean, comfortable and cheerful. The décor adds a quirky touch to the rooms, and colour and charm to what could have been very standard rooms. The rooms are spacious and the yard with its pool well kept.
Need to know
Off-street, secure parking is available. There are no self-catering facilities and there’s a fridge in the lounge area for your drinks.
