Lioness and rhino calf – showdown
A few days ago I was on a game drive in Nkomazi Game Reserve, south of Barberton in Mpumalanga, where I witnessed this amazing stand off.
A lioness, although not hungry (she had recently gorged in wildebeest) couldn’t resist having a go at separating this white rhino calf from its mother. The chess game continued for more than an hour until nightfall, when we had to return to camp.
