Experience the Canadian Rockies on a glass-domed train

Ever wanted to visit the Rocky Mountains in beautiful Canada? Now you can hop on this luxury train that promises the perfect, unobstructed view from a glass-domed carriage.

The Rocky Mountaineer railway tour operator based in British Columbia has just launched a new way to see the Rockies, with a glass-domed railway car designed in conjunction with Stadler Swiss engineers.

The GoldLeaf is a bi-level luxury car, so you can venture upstairs too. There’s a kitchen that serves meals with a touch of class, as well as custom-designed, heated composite-leather seats which recline and swivel 180 degrees for your enjoyment.

‘These new GoldLeaf rail cars will allow us to welcome even more guests on board our trains and offer increased availability across our most popular dates and routes,’ said Steve Sammut, president and CEO of Rocky Mountaineer. ‘We were intentional in designing these new cars to offer the same exemplary guest comfort across the entire fleet, while also making numerous engineering enhancements behind the scenes that reflect our goal of constantly enhancing both the experience and efficiency of our service.’

As yet, these cars will be servicing two routes on two-day trips. The First Passage to the West trip includes stops along Vancouver and Lake Louise, a hamlet in the sublime Banff National Park. The second trip is similar, but the Journey through the Clouds takes passengers through the alpine town of Jasper in Alberta to Jasper National Park along with the town of Kamloops and Calgary city.

Each glass-domed railway car accommodates 72 guests, which has dimmable windows in the upper levels in case you’re wondering about the glare. With practically unobstructed views throughout the car, there’s no need to book the window seat.
