According to the Global Footprint Network, consumption of energy, food, and other resources is far exceeding the ability of the earth to sustain the planet’s ‘needs’.
By 2030, it’s predicted that earth will run out of the necessary resources to support life or humans’ needs.
That’s why Google and SAP, a business software company, are partnering to sponsor a sustainability contest called Circular Economy 2030. The contest is geared towards social entrepreneurs whose innovation and work will support social causes, like this one for the environment.
Winning proposals will have succeeded in including ideas and plans that will generate revenue using data analytics and machine learning that works towards creating a circular economy, in which consumption and carbon emissions are reduced via green methods such as recycling, reusing, up-cycling and repair work. The circular economy model is one that minimises waste in a system and aims to conserve resources.
Successful applicants will win over USD $100,000 (nearly R1,4 million), and proposals need to be in by 17 March 2019. Five finalist will be announced at the Google Cloud Next Conference from 9 to 11 April, with the overall winners announced on 7 May.
