Emirates Airlines launched the world’s shortest flight for one of the world’s biggest aircrafts, the double-decker Airbus A380.

The flight goes between Dubai and the capital of Oman, Muscat – the two are just 340km apart. The new flight route will be launched this month and will offer two flights a day.

In addition, the Emirates has broken its own record. Its route between Dubai and Doha, just 379km apart, used to be the A380’s shortest flight.

Before this, the route was serviced by Boeing 777-200ER jets. The A380 has more capacity and room and offers economy, business and first-class seats.

Emirates also operates the world’s longest non-stop flight on an Airbus A380, that which goes between Dubai and Auckland, New Zealand and takes over 17 hours.

Emirates is the world’s largest operator of this super-jumbo with more than 100 A380 models in its fleet.

The A380 has carried over 190 million passengers. It has been flown in more than 300 commercial flights per day which take off or land every two minutes.

It is the world’s largest and most spacious passenger aircraft. It has two levels and can carry more than 500 passengers. According to CNN, it is made up of 4 million individual parts sourced from 1 500 companies from 30 countries.
