The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) is counting down the days until the eggs of a great horned owl hatch – and they want to share it with the world. According to AGFD, the little ones will join them ‘any day now’.
‘This live-streaming camera provides an unedited glimpse of nature in all its beauty and cruelness. An intimate view into the lives of wildlife is a rare privilege and we hope you enjoy and learn from this experience,’ the department says on its website.
Great horned owls have prominent feathered tufts on either side of their head, resembling feathered ‘horns.’ These are not their ears as some may think. Owls’ ears are actually located in a low position on either side of their head, with the left ear being lower than their right.
When we took a glimpse of mama owl in her cosy nest on the webcam, she appeared to be resting and was quite unfazed by her popularity:
