The third-largest national park in South Africa now has a spa for all those in need of some pampering and ‘me time’.
Addo, which boasts over 600 ellies, has a new spa that opened in October 2018, called Indlovu Spa. The spa takes inspiration from the the park and its wildlife and gets its name from the isiXhosa word for elephant – indlovu.
The spa’s Managing Director, Tania Rossouw, explains that the team of four local beauty therapists at Addo Indlovu Spa were originally employed in a domestic cleaning capacity and were trained as beauty professionals to help improve their skillsets and career prospects.
Indlovu Spa offers a range of massages, head to foot to full-body, as well as a nail bar for manicures and pedicures.
According to a SANParks press release, Rossouw wants to provide five-star service that’s good value for money while still respecting the natural environment of the park.
The spa only uses natural ingredients for its treatments and makes its own foot scrub, which contains essential oils such as locally-sourced spekboom oil. Spekboom, a plant well-loved by elephants, can be crushed, and the juices, which have healing properties, can be used to hydrate the skin, according to Rossouw.
Spa treatments can be enjoyed either in visitors’ lodgings or in a private outdoor gazebo near the reception at the Main Camp. The spa is open to all park visitors and not just overnight guests, and even caters to kids who might just need some time out.
