Itinerary:
Day 1: Johannesburg
Depart O.R Tambo Airport on your international flight to Beijing, China.
Day 2: Beijing
Welcome to Beijing – The capital of People’s Republic of China. Beijing is the nation’s political and cultural centre. Upon arrival, you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Meals: No meals.
Day 3: Beijing
After breakfast you will be collected from the hotel by your guide. Today’s tour begins with a drive to Tiananmen Square and a walk through the Forbidden City, home of the Chinese Ming and the Qing Dynasty emperors for 5 decades. Continue to Hutong, the local and traditional Beijingese living area before visiting the Temple of Heaven, the most holy of Beijing’s imperial temples, described as a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.
Day 4: Beijing
Todays’ tour highlights include visits to the 2008 Olympic Games Sites i.e. Bird’s Nest & Water Cube and to a Jade factory to learn about the Chinese Jade culture. From here you will be transported for a ‘walk in the clouds’ on the 2000-year-old Great Wall of China (UNESCO) before enjoying a foot massage at a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) research centre. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 5: Beijing
Visit Summer Palace, a vast ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces which was an imperial garden in Qing Dynasty, dominated by Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake, covering an expanse of 2.9 square kilometres, three-quarters of which is water. From here we visit a Pearl Factory Outlet – a great place to buy pearls in China with wholesale prices, every strand of lovely sea and freshwater pearls are negotiable. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.
Day 6: Beijing – Xian
Transfer to Beijing station where you board the Bullet train to Xian. Xian is one of the four great Ancient capitals of China. It was the capital of China during the reign of Zhou, Qin, Han, Sui, and Tang dynasties. With over 3,100 years of history, a visitor to the city will quickly find out how much there is to experience. Meals: Buffet Breakfast.
Day 7: Xian
Tour the exhibit of the historical Terracotta Warriors and Muslim Quarter and the traditional market. The Terracotta Warriors and Horses is a very large collection of life-size terracotta sculptures in battle formations. Being the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is no doubt a must-see. Meals: Buffet Breakfast, Lunch.
Day 8: Xian – Shanghai
After breakfast, transfer to airport for your flight to Shanghai. Explore Shanghai in your free time or join the optional guided tour (US$80) including a visit to the Pearl of Orient TV Tower and exploring the Bund and Nanjing Road. Meals: Buffet Breakfast.
Day 9: Shanghai
Free day to explore Shanghai or take the optional guided tour to Suzhou to experience the Grand Canal boat ride and Visit Lingering Garden, lunch included (US$120 pp). Meals: Buffet Breakfast.
Day 10: Shanghai – Johannesburg
Check-out of hotel and transfer to Shanghai for your return flight to OR Tambo. Meals: Buffet Breakfast.
Day 11: Johannesburg
Arrive at O.R. Tambo.
