Camping gear: Keep clean with a solar-heated shower bag
Those of you who don’t like shaving your legs while covered in goose bumps should consider a solar-heated shower bag.
They’re made from plastic and painted black on one or both sides to retain heat. Fill the bag with water, lay it on the ground or strap it to your roof racks – black side facing skyward – and wait for the water to heat up. On sunny days, it takes two to three hours to heat a 20-litre bag to a temperature of 48° C. A single shower uses about 10 litres of water, so if you’ve started plaiting your leg hair, be the fi rst to jump under the nozzle or share with a (good) friend.
Tip:
Take along additional rope/cord for high tree branches. Your shower should hang close to your head to optimise water pressure.
