If you have 500 bhp under the hood or a collector’s classic car or bike in your garage then the Kalahari Desert Speedweek was invented for you. A means to safely showcase it to the world, this event takes place in the Northern Cape’s remote and lonely expanse of the Hakskeenpan. What could bring you more pleasure than driving down a road that seems to go on forever with a bright blue horizon?
Petrolheads and speed freaks alike are drawn to this event that takes place just outside of Upington in one of the most expansive areas in South Africa, where they can witness some of the fastest cars and bikes in the country. This year highly-anticipated motor event takes place from 14- 23 September and sees seven kilometres of specially prepared clay track for high-speed top-end runs with timing will be at the five-kilometre mark. This is the first annual event in South Africa to cater for top end runs over long distances, with a gymkhana track to vary the experience.
