The National Arts Festival in Grahamstown was a huge success this year. Great actors, musicians, Djs and artists all singing their hearts out. The Festival drew all kinds of creative types from all over South Africa- Like a moths to a flame.
Using the town as the setting I created an artwork called “the butterfly effect”. Using found materials from the town’s landfill, the artworks intention was to symbolize a small change in the dynamics of an interconnected system. Like a mouse that starts an avalanche, like a fish that causes a Tsunami and like a butterfly that causes a hurricane
“Through the process of transformation this “rubbish” can be re-born into a second life, inspiring the flight of our soul in the mind’s eye.”
