A young leopard in the Kruger National Park recently tried to make a meal out of a frightfully spiny porcupine. The ‘big cat’ was clearly still too young to get the better of it, though, and its attempts to take down its porcupine prey were seemingly half-hearted and rather playful.
He is seen noshing on a quill, in a way that suggests it was thinking “I meant to do that”. The porcupine, having none of it, keeps up a good fight with spines protectively splayed outward, and doesn’t let the leopard get in front of it, eventually making its way off the road and into the bush.
It’s obvious that the young wildcat was totally baffled by its prickly prey, and instead gave a safari vehicle full of tourists a rare, yet entertaining sighting.
