Canadian-American movie star Ryan Reynolds will be narrating a wildlife documentary called Great Bear Rainforest, which will be released in February 2019. Its namesake is the vast region of wilderness in British Columbia that is home to some of Canada’s Pacific wildlife.
The documentary is directed by Ian McAllister, who is also the executive director of Pacific Wild, a Canadian non-profit organisation involved in research, community outreach and environmental campaigning for the Pacific coastal region. According to a media statement issued by the NPO, the crew spent three years filming the documentary, which focuses on both land and sea animals, including the ‘rarest bear on earth’, the white Kermode bear or ‘spirit bear’ as it’s commonly known.
‘We can’t think of a more perfect fit for this project than Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds,’ says McAllister, who is also Canadian and has lived and worked in the Great Bear Rainforest for 30 years, according to Pacific Wild. ‘Ryan is a wonderful representative for the ongoing conservation of this globally significant rainforest which is part of his Canadian heritage and we are thrilled he will be our narrator.’
‘I want my children to know there is still an area in this world that has remained wild, and will remain that way, because of the long history of stewardship shown by indigenous people,’ says Ryan Reynolds. ‘I hope this film inspires the younger generation that there is hope for the future if we all work together and take care of our planet’s remaining wild places.’
While the cinematography and visuals promise to be spectacular, Hans Zimmer fans will be in for a treat as the highly-acclaimed German composer will be scoring the documentary.
Great Bear Rainforest will premier on 12 February next year in Vancouver, Reynolds’ home city. The official release date is 15 February, and IMAX giant screen theatres across the world will be showing it in 2019.
