The excitement around the Cape Getaway Show, brought to you by Mercedes-Benz Vans, is starting to make an audible buzz. Here are just a few reasons why we’re really looking forward to it:
1. SACamera workshops
We’re lucky to work with some extremely talented photojournalists at Getaway, and Dylan Kotze is one of them. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about the world of travel and wildlife photography and will be sharing some of his experience in how to get the perfect shot. You’ll learn all the ground-rules, and the inspiring content will ensure that your camera is glued to your eyesocket for the foreseeable future.
Warning: tickets are limited, so book your tickets here as soon as possible. The workshop fee includes entry into the Getaway Show, and comes to R350.
2. It’s the first year with music
Can you really relax without some good tunes? We’re not sure. That’s why this year you’ll be serenaded from 3pm.
3. Mountain-biking
The surroundings of the Getaway Show at Lourensford
The venue, Lourensford Wine Estate, is an attraction on its own. The trails that cover this beautiful estate wind their way around pine slopes, abundant fruit orchards and – of course – grapes. You can choose between a leisurely 15 kilometres with the Family Ride (R60), or go all out with the Ride Challenger at 45 kilometres (R120). Booking details are here if you’re interested!
4. Mercedes-Benz 4×4 track
Join the professionals from the Mercedes-Benz Dynamic Driving team on the exclusive Mercedes-Benz 4×4 track which will take you on an exhilarating ride through the magnificent Lourensford Wine Estate. This is your opportunity to experience the latest in 4×4 technology. The track will be medium-challenging and will take approximately 15 minutes.
5. Taste delicious wine

It wouldn’t be Cape Town if there wasn’t wine! We’ll be first in line for the Best Value Wine tastings, where just R20 gets you a glass and a Best Value Wine Guide … and that’s not to mention the free tastings.
6. An even wider variety of exhibitors
The number of stalls has increased by 20% from last year. That means more variety, more awesome, more fun… and maybe you’ll finally track down the lime-green dinosaur-covered hiking boots that you’ve always wanted.
7. Hike with the family
Some of us aren’t too savvy on two wheels, but there’s no way that’s keeping us from experiencing the full beauty of the estate! There’s a gentle hike happening at 8.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday. Bring your family along for a truly spectacular meander along the foot of the Helderburg Mountains. Booking details here, at R60 a person (includes free entry to the Getaway Show, worth R60).
8. CycleLab with Ride Magazine
This is a mini-expo within the Show. You’ll find enough gadgets and equipment at the CycleLab with Ride magazine here to make any cyclist’s heart happy.
9. Kids under 12 are free
And this is only where the fun begins.
That doesn’t mean that you can just pick up the cute baby and run away. But if you’ve got a whole pack of sticky-faced young’uns, this is a great place to bring them for an afternoon of (affordable) fun. They’ll be entertained in the Old Kids Zone by a climbing wall, quattro bungy, bubble ball and jumping castles; leaving plenty of time for you to go get a beer in the Castle Lager beer tent.
10. Food
We haven’t mentioned the food yet? Oh boy. There will be all sorts, from the fancy gourmet to the old-school boerie roll. Come hungry.
