Day 4 – The Put Foot Rally hits Etosha
Toshari Lodge, Okaukuejo to Kupfer Quelle Resort, Tsumeb
Distance: 300 km
After an incredibly wild Checkpoint Party at Toshari Lodge, day four of the Put Foot Rally saw teams head to Etosha National Park. I’d never been but heard that it was incredible … and it did not disappoint. Within 10 minutes of driving through the gate we came upon a lion kill, what are the odds? In fact, I thought we may have peaked too soon but as it turns out, Etosha is wildlife heaven and even when there’s nothing around the park exudes a surreal, almost Dali-esque feel. The blue sky and golden grass create an incredible contrast and simply driving through the scenery is a visually poetic assault on the senses.
It was also great to be in Etosha with so many of the other crews. We ran into quite a few of them, shared stories of sightings, had a laugh and carried on, sharing photos on Twitter throughout (scroll through the #putfootrally hashtag to see pics from all the teams).
With so much going on, not to mention the sighting we had of a lepoard stalking a duiker as we were leaving (check out the photos at the bottom), I thought it best to put together 20 of my favourite images from the park because, you know, sometimes words just won’t do. I only hope these photos do it at least the smallest bit of justice. (Also, see if you can spot the sneaky jackal in the first three images).
